Developing a LEAD Scholarship Application

The Alumni Association has an established formal process to recruit LEAD Scholars which is managed by a team of higher education professionals who are employed by the organization. Scholarship applications are sent out to qualified underrepresented minority students who have

been admitted to U-M. Hundreds of qualified students apply to LEAD every year for this merit-based scholarship and community program. The Alumni Association manages

the funding for LEAD, which allows the program to support between 70-80 new students annually, while also maintaining support for returning students for up to four

years. Typically, the Association can support less than 10 percent of the qualified LEAD applicants who apply for scholarship support.
