Methods of Giving
Fundraising Overview | Alumni Association of the University of Michigan
The Association’s development staff employs a donor-centric approach to fundraising. We identify and cultivate potential donors and work to understand their desires and passions; solicit donors for their assistance; and steward donors through continued communications and involvement.
Donors give to U-M and the Association in a variety of different ways, including:
- a one-time gift with no additional formal commitment (the most common form of giving).
- a pledge (formal commitment) to make donation(s) over a scheduled period of time.
- a transfer of stock shares to U-M, which subsequently sells the shares and deposits the proceeds.
- a gift in kind (gift of services or products) deemed useful to the University’s needs and goals.
- a bequest, meaning a donor officially notifies the University of its inclusion in his/her estate plans or its designation in his/her will.
