Community Service Events

Community Service Events | Alumni Association of the University of Michigan

The Association encourages its clubs to give back to their communities and support local alumni and students. Here are some examples of typical club community service functions:

  • Food banks and soup kitchens
  • Food and donation drives
  • Homeless shelters
  • Building projects (e.g., Habitat for Humanity)
  • Environmental clean-ups
  • Walk-a-thons

Michigan Alumni Community Service Day

As the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campus communities prepare for commencement, alumni all over the country commemorate their own academic achievements at U-M by planning community service projects in their communities. Last year alumni volunteered more than 1,600 hours in their communities! Check out the Community Service Day Infographic to see the other amazing ways alumni gave back.

In prior years we requested that clubs plan their Community Service Day projects between the two weeks leading up to and the two weeks after commencement. Moving forward, we are asking that you schedule your project from commencement through the month of May. The change in dates was made to coincide with the university's community service initiatives.

Club Presidents will receive an email reminder every year asking the club to participate.
