Fundraising Events

Fundraising Events | Alumni Association of the University of Michigan

Club events often host social, athletic, and other events that include a fundraising aspect to support the club's scholarship fund(s) (e.g., a 50/50 raffle at a game-watching party; a silent auction at a club dinner).

Clubs hosting fundraising events may have a portion of the event fee benefit the scholarship fund.  But because the fee is required to attend, that portion is not tax-deductible.  You may have optional donations attached to a paid or free event.  Because those donations are optional, they are considered tax deductible and will receive a receipt from the University.  The AAUM will send those donations directly to financial aid.  Donations are not subject to the 2% credit card fee.  Read more about club scholarship funds and the tax deductibility of donations.
